I am a Harvard graduate with more than five years of tutoring and education consulting experience. After graduating from Harvard, I trained with several elite test prep companies and admissions consulting firms before acquiring my own students. Now, I tutor in-person in the NYC area and online over Skype across the globe.

I know all of the tricks and shortcuts to master tests such as the SAT and ACT, and I teach my students when to use these methods properly. More importantly, I help students discover which aspects of their habits are not sustaining them while they work to build new ones. In my experience, major gains occur when students heighten their awareness. Only then can they find their unique and subsequently successful ways of working.

I fit into this system as a guide. I make the oftentimes stressful and confusing test prep or admissions process more lighthearted and manageable than most students and parents anticipate by making each session active and collaborative. I absolutely love what I do and am constantly improving my technique. As a result, my students routinely reach and exceed their goals. Tests and applications are like games to me, and I aim to share my enthusiasm for them with every student I encounter. Although the process requires effort, preparing for a test or getting into college shouldn’t be an unpleasant experience!

As an undergraduate, I attended Harvard University where I concentrated in Film Studies through the Visual and Environmental Studies Department, and minored in psychology and the French language. While there, I also participated in a wide range of extracurricular activities and programs including peer counseling, film critique, performing arts, study abroad, and the campus newspaper The Harvard Crimson. I love dogs, chocolate, New York City, theater, and embarrassingly bad television.

PLEASE use this website as a resource for whichever test you are studying, whether you are doing so alone, alongside a class, or with the support of a tutor. I want to try to help demystify the process by sharing some of the resources I have found and/or use on a daily basis with my own students.

"Words cannot express how thankful we are that we found Michelle! Our son took the SAT for the first time in December of his junior year without any studying whatsoever, and received a 2030. We then bought an SAT study guide and he began taking the practice tests from that to improve his scores. The following May, his score only improved to 2060. Through a Google search, we were highly impressed with Michelle's credentials and contacted her regarding our son. She was highly professional, but personable, and we arranged online sessions to begin immediately. We really thought our son was going to dread the appointments ~ what kid wants to spend his summer vacation doing homework! But Michelle made it like a game to him, and challenged him to improve each week. We made her aware of his previous SAT scores, and she catered the sessions to his needs. As the summer progressed, she gave him practice tests to see how he was doing. We were so impressed with the improvement, just in 3 1/2 months! We had to wait and see how he scored on the real SAT in October. His scores came back and we were shocked. His reading score went from 640 to 780; his math was unchanged at 780; and his writing went from 610 to 800. He now has a 2360 on the SAT."

- Parent who later hired me to work on test prep with her other son and for college admissions consulting work, which resulted in an enrollment at Dartmouth

"My daughter's SAT scores soared after having Michelle Cronin come into our lives! Michelle's methodical but easy-going nature was a real plus in getting to the tasks of drills and practice tests.. She knows what she is doing when it comes to SAT/ACT prep and I highly recommend her."

- Parent whose daughter got into every school to which she applied (with many scholarship offers!)

"My daughter prepared for the SHSAT with Michelle and was accepted to Bronx High School of Science, her first choice! Michelle is a highly effective tutor. She respects the student, she is sensitive and kind, and effectively assesses strengths and weaknesses to target areas of need. She allows the student autonomy to work through questions, and effectively guides them to get to the right answer if needed. She also listens carefully to ensure that their approach and strategy are effective for the test. She knows how to build confidence through their own efforts, and provide helpful hints along the way! Michelle is a wonderful person and tutor, she is a fantastic role model for students. Her ability to work with children and communicate in a productive way with parents makes her a rare find in the tutoring community."

- Parent whose son I worked with for only one month

"I just wanted to tell you that I got a 33 on my ACT. I got a 33 for English, 31 for Math, 33 for Reading, and 34 for Science. Thank you so much I couldn't have done it without you!"

-Student whose original scores were English: 35, Math: 30, Reading: 29, and Science: 25 for a composite of 30

"Just wanted to let you know about my SAT scores for May–I scored a 760 on the critical reading, 720 on the math, and 780 on the writing. Combined with best of the March SAT, it adds to 2300, on its own it is a 2260. Thanks for the help!"

"Michelle was just fabulous at managing my son's college applications. I will say there is no way we could have done what we did without her. In addition, she takes all of the stress out of it!"

- Parent who hired me for college admissions help and again for transfer admissions consulting; son is now at Vanderbilt
